The Coupine plugin has potential. We would like to see something a bit more rounded for the premium price. Certainly with pricing similar to the cost of some fully feature packed themes we think this plugin could be extended to be able to comfortably seek the price it is asking users to pay
The Coupine WordPress Plugin is a plugin that has been designed to supplement your website with a coupons section. It’s a little bit different and something we would expect would sit nicely as a free WordPress plugin. However unfortunately it’s a premium plugin with, we understand, some fancier features planned.
Creating a coupon is pretty straightforward. They’re just custom WordPress post types. Your coupon image is the feature image and there’s some additional meta information to add (such as price, discount, URL) to send you to the site that the Coupon is for. Customising the colors of the coupons is a bit weird though, but more on that later.
It’s basic couponing at best. There’s nicer plugins out there (such as scratch engine pro) which gives a more funky feel to a coupon system. However if you want a plain vanilla coupon area of your site with categorised coupons then this WordPress plugin is for you. We do like the plugin and have started to use it for our own Coupon area here.
Works well with some of the standard WordPress themes. However the way the plugin is coded the archive page is wrapped into normal content and the theme may have different containers than standard if you’re using something bespoke. This is where it falls down as the layout can go a bit messed up with any theme that’s non standard (and there’s hundreds out there).
There’s not much to figure out here at all, the customisation of the coupon colors is a bit weird though, this is a WordPress plugin but it tries to customise things using the theme customiser, so you end up hunting around trying to customise settings under the plugin settings then get taken to the theme customiser to mess with the plugin settings. Would prefer it all under a single plugin settings page with additional sub-menu’s for styling and text editing options. Some way to go here to be a top notch plugin but it does achieve its outcome.
Pretty lacking in the easy to find documentation front. It’s assumed you can use the plugin and know where to create the coupons and change the colors. It’s a low technical to use plugin so it’s not a big deal about the documentation but would have liked a quick how to video or something.
It’s a nice plugin and gives an additional area to your site. Like some of our other reviews it may not have everything and it is also a plugin that may not be for everyone. A mixed bag on the cool factor front but certainly one to keep an eye out (e.g. split testing of Coupons would be cool if that was something the plugin author decided to bring into play).
